autumn leaves: the body shop seaweed ionic clay mask

RRP: £12.00 (100ml)

I've literally just got out of the shower after trying this for the first time! I got it for christmas with my normal products from The Body Shop and now seemed like the perfect time to try it as this week I've had really bad skin. This mask is designed to cleanse skin and control excess oil by drawing out impurities, clarifying and refreshing the skin. This seemed perfect for me as I have oily/combination.

I'm a huuuuuge fan of the Seaweed range and The Body Shop in general, but the only thing that annoys me is that they don't print directions on how to use the products. Before trying this I spent a little while researching online as to how long to leave it on for and to be honest some of the reviews scared me! A lot of people were saying the same thing 'this product isn't suitable for sensitive skin' and that it left them with a burning sensation and bright red skin. But then there were some reviews saying that this is one of the best skincare products on the market. I decided I had to try it anyway as it would have been a waste of money if I hadn't. And now I'm glad I did!

It really is a mud mask - a very thick consistency that's quite stiff. I didn't want to apply too much in case my skin didn't like it, so I applied a smooth thin layer all over my face (avoiding the areas close to my eyes, eyebrows and lips) and left it alone. I'd decided that I would leave it for 4-5 minutes but if I experienced any uncomfortable or painful sensation then I'd wash it off immediately but as it was absolutely fine I left it for a total of 10 minutes. In this time it dried quite tightly and felt quite heavy but I was expecting that from a mud mask. I'm used to using Montagne Jeunesse masks which usually work pretty well for me but often leave my face quite red afterwards so I was hoping that this one wouldn't have the same effect - fortunately it didn't!

After the 10 minutes were up, I washed it off with warm water and dabbed my face dry with a clean towel. It felt quite dry to the touch - but not anywhere near as dry as I thought it would be, thankfully! I didn't have a red face, it just looked and felt refreshed, clean and healthy. This mask reduced the size and colour of some of my current imperfections and has had a really nice effect on me - I'll definitely be using it again! I probably wouldn't recommend using it more than once a week as it has quite a big impact with just one use.

The only thing I'm still not sure about is if I'm supposed to use any products before or after. I have the whole Seaweed range so I'd love some advice if anyone else has used this mask!
