Avocado Seaweed Face/Hair Mask and Seaweed Bath | Hildablue

After my last post about seaweed in skincare, I’ve been doing some more research. That is, I’ve splashed seaweed over my face, in my hair and in my bath water. And the answer is yes. Still love it.

This time let me share a recipe that can be used both on face and hair, and also how to use seaweed in the bath tub which will relieve tensions and aches and help the blood circulation!

In my last post, I was asked about the kind of seaweed to use. As you know, there are tons and tons of different kinds of seaweed, edible ones including kombu, nori, spirulina, wakame… the list goes on and on. And the great thing is, they all have the same wonderful properties for your skin! Of course the nutritional values vary a bit, if you want to read more you can check out this list of edible seaweed on Wikipedia. If you have many types of seaweed at home, you can use a mixture of them when making your skincare products – that way you will get more variation with minerals and vitamins. But one kind is just fine. Like I said, you can buy nori sheets, or look in shops that specialize in Asian/Japanese goods. In health shops you’ll find spirulina and chlorella powder, that both are real super-seaweeds that you can use on your skin and in your hair as well. The powder might also be easier to use than whole seaweed.
If you live near water, you can even use seaweed fresh from the water! This is especially handy if you want to take a seaweed bath at home, as you can use quite a lot of seaweed for this. Just make sure that you know what it is you’re picking as there are some seaweed that are poisonous.

To make things simple, I made a goo that is a combined face mask and hair mask, containing seaweed plus another super ingredient – avocado. This mask is going to moisture and clear your skin and hair, and also increase hair growth. Combine this face and hair mask with taking a  seaweed bath. Basically you just add some seaweed and salt to your bath. The seaweed will stimulate blood circulation, ease tensions, pains and irritated skin. For excact mesures, check it out on Blue recipes.

But, back to the Avocado-seaweed face and hair mask. Enjoy!
2 tbs dried seaweed
rose water/water
1 ripe avocado
1 tbs thick yogurt
1 tbs olive oil

Cover seaweed in rose water and leave to swell for five minutes. Squeeze out any excess water (you can save it to use as a toner afterward) and mix the seaweed with the rest of the ingredients and run in a blender. Apply all over hair, especially roots, and in your face. Leave on at least 15 minutes. Rinse off, shampoo your hair and splash some cold water / seaweed toner on your face.

REVIEW of Lush's BB Seaweed Mask - Smart and Sarcastic With ...

Before I get into this product, I feel like I should let you know what my skin is like and my particular skin concerns. I have very dry skin and this winter I find myself plagued by dry patches of flaky skin. Usually I am fairly blemish free excluding one or two stress pimples but I think my heavy duty moisturizer...or something else in my routine...is breaking me out because I have been getting a lot more breakouts on my forehead, cheeks and nose. At the start of using this mask I had quite a few (around 5) large, inflamed zits and a redness around my cheeks and forehead. My skin is generally not oily though so I can't give an opinion on how this product works for people with oily or combination skin.
Overall Impression
I'm not quite sure how I feel about the ratio of price to shelf life to amount of product. Given that you have a short window in which to use the product (about 2 weeks for the container I got) I appreciate that there isn't a ton of product which would go wasted. At the same time, I can think of a lot of things that cost about the same amount which last a great deal longer and which can be used multiple times.

Scent: I don't mind the scent but I don't love it either. It doesn't really smell like seaweed to me, or at least the kinds of seaweed I'm familiar with. It smells more like they tried to mimic the smell of the fresh air at sea with herbs. It's not an assaulting smell but it's definitely present during use and after you've washed the mask off so you should definitely decide if you like the scent before using it.

Texture: The texture of the product is relatively thick like cake batter where the flour isn't fully incorporated or a sludge of wet sand. It is definitely thicker than lotions and masks I've used in the past. There are pieces of seaweed mixed into the batch but I feel like they don't really serve a purpose. They are large pieces so they mainly fall off your face and it seems like they would be more useful incorporated/blended into the product instead of kept in large chunks.

CONCLUSION
I don't detect any major results. I know the website is full of good reviews about a immediate difference but I don't see it. My skin feels soft but then it always feels pretty soft, especially after being rinsed with water. My skin might be marginally less dry but it definitely isn't noticeable and it still has that papery dryness. It wasn't flaky before using this product so I can't say if it would affect flakiness. My blemishes are still present and inflamed though some of the larger ones might be a little less inflamed.

Just applied

Almost dry

Forest.Joyce.Forensia » Review: Lush BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask

Bought this fresh face mask from LUSH about a month back. It’s supposed  to have cleansing effect and will clear the dirts from your skin.

I look like this with the mask mixture on. LOL!

It has bits of seaweed inside if you see clearly. It also acts like a mild scrub when I massage into my skin while I rinse it away.

I would rate this product a 3/5 as it does helps in making my skin feel refreshed and clean. However the downside is that the shelf life of this mask is too short. You can only keep it for max one month in the fridge, which means you have to finished it by then. Which is a little difficult for me even though I used it once every two or three days.

I did not managed to finished the mask and it had already turned bad. Which is a little wasted as I’ve bought it for around $20 plus. I would definitely recommend to share with someone so as not to waste it.

Rating: 3/5

That’s all for this short review!

XOXO,

Joyce.Forenisa

! The Ugly Moments: LUSH BB Seaweed Fresh Face Mask

Last Friday, I stopped by Lush to check out if they got any fresh mask in stock, managed to pick up BB Seaweed. Usually, I get Love Lettuce but noticed their consistency gets a little too thick for me and I can't get it to stick to my face!

According to the Lush website BB Seaweed Fresh Mask is "Relaxing and reviving, mineral-rich mask to cleanse, soften and beautify all skins. This blend, inspired by the sea, contains fresh and nutritious seaweed and seaweed absolute. Cleansing kaolin, antiseptic honey, calming aloe vera and rose absolute make this a great mask for everyone."

Lush masks are super easy to apply. What you can do is use a clean utensil (spoon or whatever but I used my hands coz I'm lazy lol), apply it all over face except eye area then leave it for around 10mins, wash off the mask using circular motion with your hands. They have an expiry date of 2 weeks. I usually try to buy it around the time they were made so I can use it for longer. Don't forget to keep it in the fridge otherwise you'll end up with a tub of mold lol

RRP $15.95/75g - It's pretty good for this price, usually I can use it for 4 times - roughly about $3.99 each time!

Overall: I do like this masks, cleanses and detoxifies - leaves skin feeling fresh and soft!

I'm always open to trying other products, what face mask do you use?

The cost of a typical seaweed treatment at a high-end spa: $100

Seaweed Beauty Benefits Mask

As far as we know there have been no poems or songs written to honor seaweed — the macroscopic, multicellular, benthic, marine algae (although just saying that makes us want to dance). However, that may change soon because the world is getting to love seaweed.

Yes, seaweed is more than just what keeps your spicy tuna and rice sushi roll together. The potent green plant has been shown to have both amazing beauty and healthy benefits!

In fact, it’s one of the secrets behind the beauty science at Thibiant, one of the world’s most prestigious spas located in Beverly Hills. The spa’s detoxifying seaweed wrap is a must-have among Hollywood’s A-list. One of their expert body therapists, Pattie, explained, “Seaweed helps to soften and smooth the texture of the skin, making the skin look and feel hydrated longer than normal.”

Further, the seaweed wrap is also said to aid digestion as well as reduce the appearance of cellulite. Pattie said, “It’s our number one pre-event body treatment during awards season as it releases water weight and you instantly feel lighter, less bloated, and more comfortable in your clothes.”

But beauty is just the beginning. Seaweed has also been shown to have tremendous health benefits. Michelle Butler, a holistic nutritionist at Nutra Brilliance in Redondo Beach, CA said, “Seaweeds are known to reduce blood cholesterol, remove heavy metals from the body, counteract obesity, strengthen bones and teeth, and improve digestion! Plus, they are one of the richest sources of vegetarian protein, and some varieties contain up to 10 times more calcium than milk!”

In fact, many sea vegetables contain 10 to 20 times the minerals of land plants, plus a range of vitamins. “They contain vitamin A for your skin and eyesight, as well as iodine for proper thyroid functioning.”

And if stress or the sniffles are still bringing you down, forget the OJ! “During cold and stressful times, it’s best to replenish your body with minerals, and seaweed is the perfect remedy.”

As if we needed another reason to hit the sushi bar!

Seaweed and Witch Hazel Face Mask to Reduce Oil | Homemade ...

Witch hazel blossom TruroFor some people, excess sebum production can be one of the trials of life. Oily skin can lead to breakouts and a constant influx of pesky blemishes, even into adulthood. With a healthy diet (lots of water, fruits, veggies, whole grains, and green tea), good skin care habits, and an awesome face mask to reduce oil, you can help to balance and tone your complexion.

The key ingredients in this homemade facial are seaweed powder, such as kelp powder, and witch hazel. Seaweed is a natural detoxifier, helping to draw out impurities and waste, while at the same time infusing cells with sea minerals and vitamins. Witch hazel is a great astringent, reducing oil and toning the skin. You can even use pure distilled witch hazel in place of a commercial toner by dabbing the face with a cotton ball or cloth and the witch hazel after cleansing or after using a homemade facial. Jojoba oil also helps to balance oil production. A natural wax ester, which is remarkably close to the skin's own oil, jojoba sends the message to oil producing glands that there is no need to produce so much pore clogging sebum!

To make this homemade oil reducing face mask you will need:

  • 3 tablespoons seaweed powder
  • 3 tablespoons distilled witch hazel
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil

Open pores with a splash of warm water. Pat the face dry with a cotton cloth. Stir together the kelp, witch hazel, and jojoba and then smear over the face. Leave on for fifteen minutes and then rinse off with cool water.

Wanderlusted: The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask Review ...

So the same day that I picked up my DeoDry deodorant I got the Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask. I don't know what's going on, the past few months my skin has been fairly clear, but I've had more blackheads than is usual for me. The saleswoman assured me that this mask was totally awesome, but recommended using it only on my T-zone as it was very drying.

Side note: The T-zone is your forehead, nose and chin, the areas where you produce the most oil on your face.

Here's the tagline -

Detoxify and deep cleanse your skin with a weekly mask that uses natural ionic clay action to draw out impurities and control excess oil.

Here's why it supposedly works -

Community Trade bladderwack seaweed and seaweed harvested from the French coast balance skin tone and purify and clarify the complexion.
100% natural clay complex cleanses and revitalizes skin; negatively charged ions act like magnets to draw out dirt and impurities from the pores.

Anyway, the saleswoman wasn't kidding. The first time using this mask my nose peeled for weeks. Not really good, considering that recommended use is 1 to 2 times a week. Although at the same time, it did seem to help clear up some of the blackheads on my nose (though not really on my forehead).

After my nose reached its equilibrium again I gave it another shot. Yes, I know that's somewhat silly of me, but I felt I couldn't really determine an opinion after a single use.

So here's what I think:

  • It has great reviews, but doesn't seem to really work for me.
  • People complain of the smell but I didn't notice one, so obviously it didn't bother me.
  • You really only need a small amount, so the jar, which is $22 full price, should last you for quite some time.
  • Even though it helped a bit to clear my pores it was too drying for me.
  • I don't think it did much for acne in general. In fact, I think by bringing whatever crap was in my skin to the surface, it actually made me break out more.
And here's a little tip: If you have oily skin, or an oily T-zone, avoid products that dry you out too much. Over drying the skin can actually cause it to go into oil production overdrive, making you produce more oil more quickly. You're better off to find something that controls the oil without leaving you feeling tight after. If you feel tight then you don't have enough moisture.

Awesome! . I've used this mask twice a week at night on clean skin for a month now and can see a big difference in my skin. My face feels smooth and it glows. It was well worth every penny in my opinion.

Cons Review

Okay . The product is a bit harsh on my skin. I have very sensitive skin. I break out very easily. It does make your skin glow. I wouldn't buy it again.

ChinaDoll Style: My Glowing Moment with Facial Care Centre

The thing I love about summer is I get to have all the reasons to polish my look. Call me vain, but with the white beaches beckoning me, I need to have my skin glowing! Flawless as others may say. Problem with me, I've always had sensitive skin (boo!!). I need to do regular facials to let go of old skin and let the new ones shine. (YEY!) Read on as I experienced the much loved Repechage treatments at Facial Care Centre Eastwood branch!
Team Facial Care Centre Philippines' lovely and glowing hosts: Nj ,Aivee and Bea
The pretty team of Facial Care Centre knows how to take care of their friends and clients. I went in with an open mind and an even more "unmade" skin. Aivee ushered me in for a skin consultation. Having known her from before, I was pleased she remembered me and my "skin situation". She automatically recommended the Soothing Indulgence, a luxurious 4-layer Repechage treatment that soothes, rejuvenates and stabilizes oil glands. Yes, sadly at this age, I still have over functioning oil glands. :(
Without a doubt, I needed the Soothing Indulgence Package
I'm one for details. I appreciate the personal touch someone puts on his/her work. It reminds me of when back in High School, it wouldn't be enough to just send in your work. It had to merit the teacher's second look! Check out how the ladies of Facial Care Centre took note of the details (with correct spelling and sizes). Pretty and soft to the touch!!
Feels Like Home at FCC
Getting ready for the 2 hour treatment, I braved myself for a bit of extraction (and surely a lot of time was spent taking out the oil mines i have hidden by the T-Zone area!) The skin was then prepped for cleansing before the facial masks (seaweed and mineral) to be placed on the skin. I had an initial panic alert as I'm a bit claustrophobic ( but Denise, my therapist was very nice and reassuring. She stayed with me and explained every step of the way. You'll feel a bit of heaviness on the face but it will last for about another 15 minutes from the seaweed mask (10mins). And look at the glowing Phantom-moment I had. Doesn't the mineral mask show how happy I am to have done this treatment?! A Diamond Peel caps off this Soothing Indulgence. Expect a bit of sting which is natural with the extractions.
Meet My lovely Smiley Mask
After a week: Just like the Gerbera Daisies and other summer blooms adorning the Eastwood Center, I felt the glow. Albeit not instantly, it takes a while for my skin to recoup. Sandy to the touch but glowing and smooth after 4 days, I couldn't have asked for more! Mental check: I need to do this regularly and more often when summer is coming up!!
Summer Blooms brighten up My Day
Interiors: The Facial Care Centre Eastwood is newly opened. It's been years since they've opened a new branch and what perfect location than at the Libis Area at the MDC building (beside Eastwood). Clean, spartan and with a good view of the city, I like that the rooms are all well-lit. It gives you a condo-ish feel and not a hospital-feel vibe. There are a lot of rooms available so you're sure to have privacy and silence while undergoing some treatments. I call it a haven of tranquility. That for me is a winner!
Clean and Functional Private Rooms are love
A Summer Tip: The Laser Hair Removal is something they do quite well. Depending on the areas you need to work on, I suggest you go for these early in the year to make sure more areas are targeted in time for summer! I've tried it on the legs and it makes the legs smooth!! Summer Love indeed.

The Facial Care Centre Eastwood may be visited at the 30th Floor MDC Building Libis, Quezon City. Call (2) 892-SKIN to schedule consultations.

Soothing skin indulgence with Repechage at Facial Care Centre ...

“I am a beautiful person and I deserve to be treated kindly. I am loved, and I love myself.”

That’s how I treat myself. I always feel like I am on top of the world when I treat myself to a pampering session. My recent work in covering the Corona Impeachment trials leaves me with tired skin after late nights or sore buttocks after sitting it out for five hours. Self-pampering is not about being selfish. It’s about loving yourself and treating yourself as kindly as you treat others. I believe that I deserve this ME time for myself. It doesn’t have to be a huge amount of time, even an hour or two will do.

An invite by NJ Torres to try their Skin indulgence pampering experience at Facial Care Centre newest branch in Eastwood was heaven-sent. It is a new pampering experience that I have never tried yet. I brought along two other blogger friends who I knew were just as tired as I am.

As I peered out of my window at my designated room, I smiled with delight “Forget about the worries and troubles for just this one day”.

I took a photo of myself as I prepared for my soothing indulgence. Before I was brought to my private room, the dermatologist took a look at my skin to help me decide which of the three Skin Indulgence package is perfect for my skin. Facial Care Centre provides three:

1.Energizing Indulgence (VitaSpa and Skin tone Re-energizer),

2. Soothing Indulgence (Repechage and diamond peel) and

3. Purifying Indulgence (facial treatment with collagen and advanced lasertone)

The dermatologist recommended Soothing indulgence. The Repechage is a four layer treatment from New York that nourishes, rejuvenates and stabilizes oil glands . It improves skin tone and soothes the skin, leaving it looking and feeling refreshed and invigorated for days. It also includes a Diamond peel which is their bestseller.

This is my room and to the right is a bed where a white robe awaits me. On the bed lay my white robe personalized with my name on it. How sweet. A carnation flower added a classy touch to this surprise robe.

I changed to my white robe eager to lie down and rest my tired facial muscles.

My soothing indulgence soon started as the lady scrubbed my face clean from traces of makeup, exfoliated more and steam vapor towards my face soon after. I started to doze off as soon as the Repachage treatment started.

Imagine the layer upon layer of pure, fresh European seaweed to rejuvenate, tone and help firm the skin experience :

Layer 1: Seaweed filtrate is a concentrate of freshly-harvested seaweed. It softens lines, adds moisture and helps rebalance and tone skin tissues.

Layer 2: A three-movement facial massage is given with a creamy hydrating forumla. Lasting benefits include improved circulation and skin elasticity.

Layer 3: The fresh seaweed mask is the cooling and soothing treatment that hydrates while improving skin tone and clarity.

Layer 4: The mineral mask is the grand finale. It creates its own gentle warmth to activate the properties of the seaweed mask beneath it.

The soothing facial massage must have lulled me to sleep for a moment when I felt warmth on my cheeks and the mask starting to expand. I have never had this kind of facial treatment before. I took a photo of myself. (Pardon me for not showing everything )

For the next thirty minutes, I was in lala-land on top of the world..rather at the 30th floor of MDC building in Eastwood, throwing my worries to the bottom of the building.

It was difficult to get out of my slumber as the lady slowly removed the mask from my face. I still wanted to savor the moment in bed but I was eager to meet Dine and Myrna who I brought along with me.

We are all in smiles. You could see it was an experience to remember. Instant glow. Can you tell how pleased we all are?

It is important to be kind and gentle with myself. I know that we all need time to care for ourselves or who else is going to? Pamper yourself.

If you just live in the Libis or Eastwood area, why not treat yourself to any of the Skin Indulgence packages or other services at the Facial Care Centre Eastwood branch. Call 892-SKIN (7546) for a free consultation.
